Early Humanitarian Work

Starting in the late 1970s, Davis began working with the Sacred Heart Community Services organization of San Jose, California. As a devout Roman Catholic, Joe understands the importance of giving back to the community by performing charitable works. He participated in a monthly clothing and canned goods drive following services at Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga. He continued this work until 1996 when he was named to the Board of Directors of the Our Lady of Fatima Villa, a nonprofit Catholic retirement home. He served on the Board until 2008.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Since March 2014, Joe has given his free time and his finances in support of the Gilroy Compassion Center (GCC). He has been involved in several projects with the GCC, particularly in co-funding a camping program for homeless individuals in the area. Putting his engineering and invention skills to use, he was also co-designer of a “microhouse on wheels” for homeless people. Working with the Santa Clara County Housing Department, he was instrumental in securing funding for the first prototype of the micro house from the government organization. The prototype is now completed and is in use as part of a safe parking project for the homeless in Morgan Hill. Read the latest on the projects by clicking here

San Jose State Engineering Partnership

Joe has also worked in a partnership between the GCC and the San Jose State University Engineering Department. The partnership is designed to develop and build a mobile showering and laundry facility for homeless residents of the region. The first mobile facility is now complete and in use at the same safe parking project in Morgan Hill where the micro house is located.

Safe Park Project

Throughout his years as a philanthropist, Davis has been a vocal advocate for homeless people, particularly for their safety and security. Homeless families living in RVs or their automobiles do not often have safe places to park, so he participated in establishing a “Safe Park” in the Bay Area. By lobbying local and state government agencies like the Santa Clara Valley Water District and the county’s Board of Supervisors, he convinced area leaders to develop a village of micro houses. His tireless efforts in this arena have vastly improved the lives and safety of at-risk families in the area.
